Early Tuesday morning a Lincoln County sheriff’s deputy was in the middle of a traffic stop in Brady when he observed a careless ATV driver. The deputy attempted to stop the ATV, but the driver took off, a sheriff’s spokesman said. The chase covered several streets and alleys in Brady until the rider cut through a yard, hit a railroad tie and the ATV crashed, the spokesman said. The driver ran away, but after a short pursuit, 33-year-old Chad Spurgin of Brady was tazed and captured. Spurgin was slightly injured when the ATV crashed and was taken to Great Plains Regional Medical Center, the spokesman said. Spurgin was charged with careless driving, a stop sign violation, flight to avoid arrest, obstruction of a police officer, driving under the influence of alcohol and refusal to submit to a chemical test. He is jailed at the Lincoln County Detention Center.
