Johanna Vedder of North Platte qualified June 15 for a berth in the world championship soap box derby in Akron. Vedder, racing the No. 18 car sponsored by Northwestern Energy, won the stock division in a qualifiying race at the Ogallala track, earning her a spot in the national derby that will be held July 15-21. Vedder is 11 years old. She started racing at age 7. She is excited to have the chance to compete against more than 500 racers from around the world and hopes she can bring home North Platte’s first world championship, her father Jeremy Vedder said. She enjoys racing and spending time with her family, her Jeremy said.
