The long-missing remains of 38-year-old Josh Bullock of Denver have been uncovered, Nebraska State Patrol Spokeswoman Deb Collins said Thursday.

State Patrol Investigators with Troop E - Scottsbluff say they uncovered Bullock's remains around 11 a.m. MDT Thursday in a remote area south of Chadron.

The remains will be taken to Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff, where they will be examined by both a forensic pathologist and a forensic anthropologist. DNA testing will also be conducted to determine identity of the remains, Collins said.

“Our investigators have been searching the area since Monday,” said Investigative Services Lt. Monica Bartling. “While we must wait for the result of testing to positively identify the remains, we believe them to be those of Josh Bullock.”

Investigators say Andres Gonzalez, a 27-year old Alliance man who held officers at bay June 12 during a downtown 14-hour standoff, told negotiators he killed Bullock as they tried to talk him into giving up.

Gonzalez was eventually killed in the standoff, after shooting four men.

Investigators believe Gonzalez killed Bullock on or around Dec. 1 and disposed of Bullock's body in a remote area of Dawes County. Bullock’s burnt-out pickup was found on Dec. 14 by a rancher in a ravine southeast of Chadron, Collins said.

Bullock lived in Denver but had family and friends in the Alliance and Chadron areas. He was last seen the afternoon of Dec. 1 after visiting family members in Alliance.

Rose Siefke, 19, Hemingford, a former girlfriend of Gonzalez, was arrested on June 13, and lodged in the Box Butte County Jail. Siefke is charged as an accessory to a felony in connection with the Bullock's death. Siefke was released from jail after posting the required 10 percent of a $50,000 bond.

The investigation continues, Collins said.
