Regarding your recent article (June 3) about the North Platte Canteen video as well as the song that are circulating on the Internet. Very nice! I was born in Ashland. I am a Texan but still have family ties in Nebraska. I was young at the time when World War II began, but I remember those days. Several of my uncles from Kansas and Nebraska went off to war. That video was very touching and that is just the way people were back then. Your town has so much to be proud of. Those very special ladies were true Americans. This story just warms your heart, especially considering the direction our country is going. The story needs to be told and retold so that your young ones will know and be reminded how brave and strong your town was and how they touched so many lives and still do when you read about it. What a proud time that was for your community and our nation. Thank you.
