Elizabeth Cardenas allegedly used a large knife to assault her husband Sunday and she is in jail on a $100,000 bond. Cardenes was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon, a felony that carries a maximum of 20 years in prison and a $25,000 fine. When the North Platte Police went to the 400 block of N. Elder at 4:15 p.m. Sunday, they found Tom Cardenas was stabbed in the back with a large knife, a police spokesman said. Cardenes told officers that he and his drunken wife had already had one altercation. As he was cleaning up glass from a window that was broken in that fight, Elizabeth allegedly stabbed him from behind. A police spokesman said Cardenes' injuries were not life threatening and were addressed at the scene. Elizabeth Cardenas was charged and jailed. In court Monday, Lincoln County Judge Mike Piccolo set her bond at $100,000. She requested a public defender.
