Nearly perfect weather set the stage for nearly 137 entrants and thousands of watchers Saturday at the annual parade.

Steve and Sharon Hambek served as grand marshals and won the Dale Studley award, given each year to outstanding service to Nebraskaland Days.

Sharon was the executive director of Nebraskaland Days from 1992-2001, and organizers said Steve was a great volunteer.

The number of entries was slightly less than a year ago.

Rodeo Queens, ambassadors, hobbyists, businesses, friends and neighbors rode horses, high-dollar cars, stage coaches and floats along the two-mile route on E. Fourth and N. Jeffers streets.

Kids cleaned up on candy, gathering it up by the bagful.

The Bulletin staff handed out its (10th annual) special parade edition all along the route.

I agree with serious. I did enjoy the parade this year in many ways and am grateful to all who participate. Having said that, I do miss floats - so many people just take a pickup or car and put a few signs on it about their business and call it good. It would be great to have them take a little more pride in their entry and put forth something that really represents their business well. I know it's hard to get school bands together for summer parades but thanks to NPHS for their great marching band! What happened to the St Pat's band this year? Thanks to the Maverick Band for performing. And, I really missed the bag pipes - I always look forward to them. Please bring them back - also, many years ago, there was a very spirited marching group that would come from Omaha with lots of drums and it was so fun to watch them perform. Do what it takes to get them to come back. The more interesting the parade, the more people from out of town will come to watch it - that equals more business for merchants. Again, thanks to everyone who participate and who work to organize the parade - let's work to make it even more enjoyable and varied!

Ihave been in parade for years and as a spectator this year ...wow floats? Bands? Bagpipes? It is more commercialized this year. I was disappointed especially without the bag pipes ...neland committed to cheap to pay them this year. Businesses take pride ...make a float like the ole days.
