Winning the 'Run for the Money' Special was (from left): Colton Osborn, Jose Sabala, Ronnie Wallace, Jeff Joldersma and Anthony Martin.

The competitors came from far and wide to accept the challenge of battling for top honors in Lincoln County Raceway’s ‘Run for the Money’ sponsored by Nebraskaland National Bank on Tuesday night in North Platte.

Going home with a smile on their face from winning their feature contests were Ronnie Wallace, Jeff Joldersma, Colton Osborn, Anthony Martin and Jose Sabala.

Wasting no time in taking the lead in the Modified Feature was McCook’s Ronnie Wallace who led every lap of the feature but the first in blitzing the field to earn the checkered flags despite the pair of late cautions that bunched the field on restarts with less than five laps remaining.

Wallace also was on the wheel in winning his heat race earlier in the night. Making a run towards the front from his fourth row starting position was North Platte’s Andrew Dillenburg who finished in the runner-up position in the ‘Run for the Money’ special event.

Cale Osborn of Cozad worked the cushion and moisture down low through the traffic to notch a podium finish, in third place overall.

Rounding out the top five in the Modified Feature as they battled neck-and-neck for many of the final laps were Jason Gallentine and Jim Mlady, both of North Platte. Cole Hodges of Ogallala was heavy on the loud pedal early in the night, as he was a victor in one of the heat races.

Stock Cars

Battling for the lead throughout the Stock Car Feature that put the fans in the stands on the edge of their seats was front row starters Jeff Joldersma of McClelland, Iowa and Maywood’s Casey Werkmeister, who had both earlier in the night won heat races.

Werkmeister led the initial seven laps of the Feature before a key momentum move down the straightaway garnered Joldersma the lead from lap eight to the finish, where he claimed the checkered flags in elite fashion, just in front of the hard charging Werkmeister, who won the cash dash.

Crossing the finish line in the show position was Maywood’s Kyle Werkmeister, from his second row starting position after winning one of the earlier heat races in the Stock Car division.

Zigzagging back and forth in a chess match for position on the Lincoln County oval, to finish fourth and fifth overall was Jesse Taylor of Fort Morgan, Colo. and Lloyd Meeske of Champion.

Northern Sport Mods

Cozad’s Colton Osborn was heavy on the loud pedal and put on a dominating performance in running away with the Feature victory in the Northern Sport Mods division.

He led all 20 laps of the feature, after winning his heat race earlier in the night. North Platte’s Shane Stout was on-cue in a big way. His consistency throughout the feature was rewarded with a runner-up finish after winning his heat race on a very tacky oval.

Charging forward into contention with the leaders, Curtis’ Bryan Herrick was third overall in his ‘rubber duck’ themed rocketship that paced the field during one of the heat races earlier in the evening.

Vince Leibert of Lexington and North Platte’s Dillon Schultz were high on the wheel and were rewarded for their efforts in the cockpit with fourth and fifth place honors against a loaded field of drivers in the Northern Sport Mods division.

Hobby Stock

The caution flags were very advantageous for Wilcox wheelman Anthony Martin as he took over the lead on a yellow flag and ran off and hid from the field to win the Hobby Stock Feature, despite the laundry being flown twice in the final five laps.

Martin started on the outside of row four and was able to lead from lap 10 until the checkered flags flew on lap 15.

Getting the unofficial hard charger award for the night was Tiffany Bittner as she powered into the runner-up position from her back row starting position to give Martin everything he wanted and more during the restarts late in the feature.

Michael Woodhead of Holyoke, Colo. started within contention of the lead. With great driving prowess and throttle control ‘Woody’ was able to take home show position accolades.

Battling with Woodhead throughout the feature was Arnold’s Brady Weinman, who finished fourth overall. The elite driving duo of Woodhead and Weinman were side-by-side numerous times throughout the feature putting on a great performance for the race fans in the stands.

Capping off the top five was Grand Island’s Tyler Andreasen with a drive through the field as a result of being involved in a mishap in the early portion of the Feature that forced the youngster to start from the back of the field. Andreasen was a heat race winner in just his second night out in a new hot rod.

Continuing his dominance in the IMCA Sport Compact class was North Platte fan favorite Jose Sabala, winning the heat race and feature race in stellar fashion.

Sabala has taken the checkered flags in every Sport Compact feature at Lincoln County Raceway this season. Crossing the finish line in second place overall in the feature was North Platte’s Josh Williams.

On June 19, the Lincoln County Raceway will be hosting a demolition derby with the smashing and crashing action starting at 7 p.m.
