An application period is open for the seat of county judge in Broken Bow until 5 p.m. on June 21. The seat is open due to the retirement of Judge Gary G. Washburn. The primary place of office for the judicial vacancy is Broken Bow. The seat serves the Eighth Judicial District, consisting of Blaine, Boyd, Brown, Cherry, Custer, Garfield, Greeley, Holt, Howard, Keya Paha, Loup, Rock, Sherman, Valley and Wheeler counties. Individuals interested in applying for the position must do so on an approved form available through the chairperson of the Commission or the Office of the State Court Administrator, P.O. Box 98910, Lincoln, NE 68509. The application form may also be printed from the Nebraska Judicial Branch Web site at http://www.supremecourt.ne.gov/forms/supreme-court-judicial-vacancy.shtml A Judicial Nominating Commission will hold a public hearing to consider applicants at 1 p.m. on July 12 in the Custer County Courthouse in Broken Bow. At the hearing, the commission will receive information on the qualifications of candidates. The public is welcome to attend and present information concerning candidates. Persons, if any, wishing to publicly comment favorably on qualifications should attempt to coordinate with the candidates. Public comments, if any, in opposition to candidates will be received at the hearing.
