The North Platte First National Bank Seniors ended the Kwik Stop Tournament on Sunday with a 17-1 loss to Hays, Kan. at Bill Wood Field. The First Nationals found out quickly on Sunday that it was just going to be one of those games. Hays score four runs in the first inning as North Platte committed three errors. After North Platte self-destructed in the first, Hays did damage in the second inning with their bats by rocking First Nationals pitcher Luke Volz for three runs off of five hits. In the third inning, Hays scored four more runs when Hayden Hutchinson hit a grand slam off of Volz that landed on top of the armory building in left-center field. North Platte scored its only run of the game in the bottom of the third inning. Thatcher Vap and Drew Beyer pitched the last two innings for the Nationals. Vap only gave up one run in the fourth and Beyer surrendered five. The game between North Platte and Hays was the third-place game in the tournament as both teams finished second in their respective divisions. The First Nationals started the tournament with a win over Ogallala on Thursday and lost 7-3 to Laramie, Wyo. on Friday. On Saturday, North Platte clinched second place in its division with a 13-3 rout over Dodge City, Kan.
