John Vandyke was sentenced to one and half to three years Monday in the state penitentiary. John Vandyke, 26, pled no contest to attempted robbery and false imprisonment. He was arrested Jan. 20 after he allegedly assaulted a sleeping man and stole his car, along with co-defendant Stephanie Lopez. Lopez was sentenced to the pen two weeks ago. While in jail, Vandyke was placed in isolation after he assaulted two inmates, according to a sheriff’s report, but prosecutors dismissed the assault charges in exchange for his no contest plea. Vandyke was with Lopez when she attacked a sleeping man, stole his wallet and the two of them took off in his car. Two days later, officers spotted the car at a truck stop in Sidney and arrested them both. Officers found the man’s wallet on Lopez and discovered she had used his credit card to buy gas. Judge Donald Rowlands handed down the prison sentence.
In other sentencings in district court:
Solis Rosalind Solis, 37, was sentenced to 197 days Monday in Lincoln County District Court for intent to deliver an exceptionally hazardous drug. Solis, originally from Omaha, allegedly sold methamphetamine to a confidential informant in November 2010, but the charge was reduced to intent to deliver in exchange for a guilty plea. Solis also pleaded guilty to possessing meth.
Peters Landon M. Peters, 21, was sentenced to 24 months probation, on top of the 60 days he’s served in jail while his case worked through the courts. As part of his probation, Peters must hold a full-tme job and submit to random drug tests, Rowlands said. Peters plead no contest to possessing burglary tools after he tried to break in to Big Dog Chassis and Fabrication building in late-January. Originally, Peters was charged with attempted burglary, but the charge was dismissed in exchange for his plea. The crime occurred at 2 a.m. on Jan. 27. A North Platte Police officer heard a loud banging from the Big Dog shop at 801 E. Seventh. The shop handles car parts. The officer saw Peters and another man trying to break in. He snuck up and ordered them to the ground until back-up arrived. Prosecutors said Peters was wearing latex gloves and possessed a hand drill when he was arrested. Peters will also have to pay restitution, the amount of which will be determined by his probation officer.
Keefer Thomas Keefer, 23, was sentenced to 180 days in jail for burglary. Keefer was arrested Jan. 8 when police saw him and another North Platte man, Ryan Markwardt, acting suspicious near a business in the 100 block of Rodeo Road. When the two men noticed police watching, they ran in different directions, but officers caught them and found they possessed stolen property. Keefer was also in possession of burglary tools, Police Spokesman Troy Erickson said after the arrest. In court, defense attorney Pat Hays said Keefer was going along with Markwardt and didn’t initiate the crime. Hays said the burglary tool that Keefer possessed amounted to a screwdriver in his pocket. Hays said Keefer apologized for his actions and wants to get out of jail and get a job. But Rowlands imposed the 180-day sentence. Keefer has been in jail for 79 days.
