As you all should know, May is Mental Health Month. The Eagle Riders of the Fraternal Order of Eagles will be joined by other motorcyclists and play "Pony Express" with a ride across Nebraska to raise awareness of Children's Mental Health. The F.O.E Eagle Riders, in conjunction with the organizing sponsors including the Department of Health and Human Services, the Nebraska Federation for Children's Mental Health, Parents Speak Out, Voices4Families, Families Care, Parent to Parent, Families Inspiring Families and the Nebraska Family Support Network are planning their fifth annual "Ride Across Nebraska." The event will begin in Scottsbluff with a parade to Gering on May 30. On May 31 the ride will leave Scottsbluff with stops in Sidney, Ogallala, North Platte, Lexington, and on to Kearney. On June 1, the ride will take us east from Kearney with stops in Grand Island, York, Columbus, Norfolk and on to Fremont. On June 2, we will depart Fremont and head to the State Capitol in Lincoln via Omaha with a stop at Boys Town. On the Pony Express Ride, we stop at supporting organizations and meet and talk to these young children and youth and show our support. Once you see their eyes light up and that smile come to their face, you know you made a difference in their life. Two years ago on the Pony Express Ride, we had a gentleman in his 70s ride with us from Colorado on the entire ride. A young child came up to him and said (I quote), "Mister, this is the best day of my life." Let me tell you, that brought tears to the eyes of this gentleman and to eyes of several of us standing by him. He plans to accompany us again this year. This goes to show we do this for the children and youth in our state. One of the reasons I'm writing this is to tell you that this ride costs these organizations money for planning, parade permits, getting some kids and their families to Lincoln and other incidentals for the ride. I know they would appreciate a donation to help them offset their expense. We (The Riders) are doing our part by donating time, gas and money to support this ride. If you feel in your heart to support the organization that we support and make someone's day brighter, you could send a check to: Nebraska Federation Of Families, 345 North Minden Ave, Minden NE 68981. I'm sure the money will be well spent. If you would like to view a ride agenda go to http://foeeagleriders.com/nebraska.html. or go to www.nefamilies4kids.org for more info. We sure would like to see you on the ride in support of our youth or at the State Capitol in Lincoln June 2 at 2 p.m.
