The First Nationals baseball team will take on former players from the North Platte Legion Baseball teams at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Bill Wood Field. There will be former Legion players from the 80s, 90s, and 2000s, organizer Pete Volz said. Some of the players from the 80s decade will include North Platte High School football coach Bernie Madison, along with past Legion baseball coach Mitch Beyer. From the 90s, Maxwell High School wrestling coach and former legion coach Ryan Jones will suit up. The majority of the players played ball during the past decade, including current legion coaches Adam Sterup and Logan Collins. Bill Wood Field has undergone a major facelift the past couple years, thanks to grants from Lincoln County Convention and Visitors Bureau, Mid-Nebraska Community Foundation, and the Newburn Funds. Grandstands were rebuilt last year and a new playing surface has been added this year for fans to see. There is no cost to attend, but a free-will donation will be accepted. All past Legion players are invited to come out and participate, or just spectate, Volz said. The entire community is welcome. The First Nationals start their regular season Saturday when the Seniors travel to Scottsbluff. In North Platte, the Juniors host Scottsbluff at 1 p.m. Both teams will be home against McCook Tuesday, May 22. The first pitch for the juniors is at 5:30 p.m. with the senior game to follow.
