GRAND ISLAND-North Platte High School girls' track star Allexis Menghini won two events on Wednesday in the A-3 district track and field meet.

Menghini, the defending Class A champion in the pole vault, set a new personal and school record in the event with a height of 12-feet, 1-inches.

The junior also won the long jump at 17-8 to qualify for state in two events.

Menghini was the only individual winner for both the NPHS girls' and boys' in what was arguably the toughest district in the state. The North Platte boys finished sixth and the girls were seventh.

The other state qualifier for the girls was senior Tristin Sack who was third in the shot put.

For the boys, Trevor Schramm, Wyatt McGuire and Mateo Wilcox were individual state qualifiers and the 3200 relay also made it to next week's state meet.

Schramm finished third in the 110 and 300-meter hurdles behind Enrique Alvarez of Bellevue West and Josh Banderas of Lincoln Southwest. Alvarez, a returning state medalist in both hurdling events, won the 110 and Banderas, a junior who has accepted a scholarship offer to play football for Nebraska, won the 300.

McGuire and Wilcox stood out in the distances. McGuire finished second in the 3200 meters and fourth in the 1600. Wilcox was fourth in the 3200.

The boys' 3200 relay with Wilcox, Joe Godfrey, Marcus Miller and Ben Montgomery finished third.
