Friday, May 4 • Platte River Mall — Annual Honky Tonk BBQ competition starts at 6 p.m. 50 teams compete to make the best BBQ. Free admission. Live music by Rascal Martinez, followed by Texas band No Dry County and Oklahoma recording star Shayne Rogers. • The Rail Bar (next to Depot restaurant, downtown) – Blue Swing plays live, gypsy jazz and swing, 6-8 p.m. No cover. • Sculley’s Shooters (2221 East 4th) - Live music by Nashville Reject.
Saturday, May 5 • North Platte High School – 150th anniversary of Cinco de Mayo Mexican cultural fair with authentic food, artists, and children’s activities. 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Free admission. • Platte River Mall — Honky Tonk BBQ continues all day outdoors near the Platte River Mall. Pancake breakfast, carnival, beer garden. Live music by Gary Phipps, Blue Collar and Dirty Finger. • Cody Park – Autism puzzle walk with refreshments, bounce houses, carnival games, and face painting. Begins 3 p.m. Admission $15 adult; $5 child. • Quality Inn & Suites (2102 S. Jeffers) – Kentucky Derby fundraiser benefit for the Children’s Museum. Includes horse racing, food, live auction, hat parade, and band. 2-7 p.m. Tickets $40. • Lincoln County Fairgrounds – races with IMCA modifieds, Hobby stocks, and sports mods. 7-10 p.m. Adults $10, Kids 6-12 $5, 5 and under free. • Sculley’s Shooters (2221 East 4th) - Live music by No Dry County and Shane Rogers. Cover charge.
Monday, May 7 • North Platte Senior Center (900 E. Tenth) – Musician’s jam, starts at 7 p.m. Bring your instrument. No charge.
Tuesday, May 8 • Nebraskaland National Bank (121 N. Dewey) – Volunteer downtown cleanup with breakfast, lunch, social, and supplies. • North Platte High School Performing Arts Theater - Music Department presents annual “Spectrum in Sound” concert. 7:30 p.m. Orchestra, Band, Jazz Band, Blue and Gold Singers Jazz Choir and the Concert Choir. No charge.
Wednesday, May 9 • VFW Post 1504 (2100 E. Fourth) – bingo, total of 24 games, starts at 6:45 p.m. • North Platte Senior Center (900 E. Tenth) – the Golden Classics, a four-piece combo, plays a dance. 7-10 p.m. • Public Library (120 W. Fourth) – Teen Café, hour program for ages 12-18 with fun activities based on books. 4-5 p.m. No charge.
Friday, May 11 • Prairie Arts Center (Fifth and Jeffers) – Herb market and boutique with plants, handmade goods, and garden supplies for sale. Fundraiser to help restore 1913 post office for arts center. 9 a.m.-4 p.m. • The Rail Bar (next to Depot restaurant, downtown) – Blue Swing plays live, gypsy jazz and swing, 6-8 p.m. No cover. • A to Z Books (507 N. Jeffers) – West central Nebraska’s Open Mic Nite. Established performers and newcomers. 7-10:30 p.m. Free-will donation. Refreshments provided or bring your own.
