Senate candidate Don Stenberg will be a special guest speaker at 1 p.m. Thursday at town hall meeting at the North Platte Pawn Shop. Stenberg is currently the Nebraska State Treasurer. He is a former Nebraska Attorney General. The meeting will be hosted by the Gun Owners of America, one of the nation’s leading gun rights organizations, primarily to discuss the controversy surrounding the operation Fast and Furious, a U.S. Department of Justice project that put guns in the hands of criminals along the U.S.-Mexico border. Stenberg is locked in a tough primary election battle with Jon Bruning, Deb Fischer, Pat Flynn and others for the Republican nomination for the U.S. Senate seat currently held by Ben Nelson. Nelson is retiring. At the meeting at the pawn shop, GOA lobbyist John Velleco will discuss the facts and history of the "fast and furious" scandal and contempt charges that could be filed against U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder by the U.S. Congress if the Republicans gain the majority. The North Platte Pawn Shop is at 1510 E. Fourth. The meeting starts at 1 p.m.
