Two brothers were arrested Friday for allegedly beating a middle-aged couple that lived in their neighborhood.

William Theus, 25, is charged with two counts of first-degree assault – each felony punishable by up to 50 years in prison.

Calvin Theus, 27, is charged with aiding and abetting first-degree assault and second-degree assault.

Each brother is held on a $25,000 bond in the Lincoln County jail.

Police spokesman Troy Erickson said the brothers made derogatory comments to their neighbors Friday, and later drove up at the couple’s home in the 2400 block of West Ninth. An argument ensued and the brothers allegedly punched the couple in the face, Erickson said.

The brothers were originally arrested for third-degree assault, but the charges were increased to first-degree after police received medical reports that the victims, ages 44 and 53, “suffered serious bodily injury,” Erickson said.

After the brothers were arraigned Monday in Lincoln County Court, prosecutor Jennifer Wellan told the Bulletin that Calvin used a 2x4 plank in the assaults.

They are due back in court Thursday.

Calvin Theus was jailed in September 2009 for two counts of assault and resisting arrest.

On April 27, 2010, both brothers were arrested on drug charges. Calvin was charged for possessing cocaine with intent to distribute and William with possessing marijuana with intent to distribute.

In October 2010, Calvin was arrested again for cocaine possession, according to sheriff’s records.

Dates of prior arrests were clarified and corrected Wednesday morning. -Editor
