The old Fox Theater downtown is haunted, according to a team of paranormal investigators who spent the night inside the building -- the Neville Center for Performing Arts. Mysterious footsteps, sudden chills and flickering lights were some of the weird happenings during the night. Investigators brought infra-red, night-vision cameras, temperature sensors and video and audio recorders. Their evidence and analysis will be reviewed Saturday, Feb. 25, when the team returns to North Platte. The Tri-city Research and Investigation of the Paranormal (TRIP) team will hold a question and answer session about their investigation of the theater. The public is invited. The presentation will start at 7 p.m. Doors will open around 6 p.m. A $5 donation is requested to support the playhouse. The investigation began Jan. 21 at 10:30 p.m. and continued until 4 a.m., Playhouse Manager Scott Carlson said. As Carlson sat in a theater seat during the night, he felt a sudden chill. A thermometer gun indicated the temperature sank from 68 degrees to 51 around him. Many orbs -- floating balls of light -- appeared on some videos. One orb appeared to come out from behind a couch onstage, then shoot back, Carlson said. Orbs can be dust that reflects camera light -- or something else. Analysis of infra-red film told more. All in all, it was an interesting but not a frightful night, Carlson said. “We never felt scared or threatened,” he said. The TRIP team, which is from Hastings, does not charge for their investigations. They all have “day jobs,” Carlson said. “I’m not 100 percent one way or other (that the Neville is haunted or not)," Carlson said, "but we had a chance to get some high-tech equipment in here and it will be interesting to see what it will show.” The TRIP team is considering spending another night of investigation at the Neville Center, organizer Nate Raterman said. And, the team will return to North Platte March 23 to investigate the old McCabe Hotel downtown on Dewey St. Investigations have been discussed at the old Miller School on the outskirts of North Platte as well as the old Paramount Theater building downtown across the corner from the Neville Center, Raterman said.
