Girls BB: Hershey defeats CozadTell North Platte what you think

The Hershey Lady Panthers defeated Cozad Thursday 40-28 to claim the C1-11 subdistrict title.

Hershey (18-6) advances to face Chadron (24-0) in a district final Feb. 24 in Sidney. Tip off is 8 p.m. central time.

In the subdistrict championship, Hershey got the uppper hand and took a five-point lead in the first quarter, but Cozad (8-13) refused to quit.

"They kept hanging around," Hershey Coach Jeremy Thomas said. "We stopped them cold in the second quarter but we couldn't find the basket. In the second half we gave up too many easy shots."

Leading 29-23, Hershey's Tayler Baker hit a three-pointer to start the fourth quarter. She hit another one in the quarter, as did teammate Daynlee Miller. A bucket late in the game by Maddie Seamann sealed the deal for Hershey, Thomas said.

Cozad scored just five points in the final eight minutes.

Maegan Hiatt scored 12 for Hershey. Baker had 10 and Miller 8.

Stephanie Finnegan scored 9 for Cozad and Kaylea Reyes chipped in 8.

Hershey: 13-6-10-11 - 40

Cozad: 8-4-11-5 - 28

Team totals. Free throws: Hershey 4-10, Cozad 5-6. Three pointers: Hershey 4 (Miller 2, Baker 2), Cozad 1 (Finnegan).
