Thedford cow/calf operator and custom grazer David Hamilton and Darr Feedlot owner Craig Uden will continue to serve terms on the national Beef Promotion and Operating Committee that decides how beef is advertised. The BPOC sets the annual budget and priorities for beef advertising, promotion and research. The money comes from the national beef checkoff, a $1 per head fee levied on cattle owners. Hamilton and Uden were named to the board last week during the 2010 annual Cattle Industry Convention and Trade Show in San Antonio. Hamilton and Uden are also board members of the Nebraska Beef Council. The BPOC decides the final annual budget and program priorities for national beef checkoff initiatives. The board has 20 members. This is Hamilton’s second, one-year BPOC term. He has held leadership positions in the Thedford Area Nebraska Cattlemen’s Association, the Sandhills Cattle Association, the Nebraska Cattlemen’s Association and the Nebraska Corn Fed Beef Program. Hamilton is also active in the Thedford community. He served 22 years (18 years as president) of the Thedford Board of Education. He has also been active on the Catholic parish council and chaired the building committee for his church. Uden will begin his fourth year on the BPOC. He is chairman and secretary of the Nebraska Beef Council. He is a cow/calf operator and owner of Darr Feedlot Inc., a custom cattle feeding operation between Cozad and Lexington. Uden has been active in the Nebraska Cattlemen’s Association, serving on its research and education foundation since 2004 and chairing the market reporting committee. He is also a member of the Dawson County Cattlemen’s Association and at the national level, has served as vice chair of the industry’s Research, Education and Innovation Committee.
