The Nebraska Game and Parks cited a man for poaching an elk near the area commonly referred to as Fire Lake west of North Platte.
Bryce Evans was ticketed for an incident that took place Jan. 15 in the Birdwood Wildlife management area, the Bulletin learned.
Conservation officer Dudley Sorensen of Game and Parks confirmed the date and time of the incident but would not provide the name of the person ticketed until a conviction was secured. He also declined to discuss any of the details of the incident.
The Bulletin learned through an anonymous source that Evans was working in a field near the management area when he shot the bull elk.
He was charged with taking an elk in closed season and liquidated damages on an elk. Both are misdemeanor offenses.
