A North Platte man who led the Nebraska State Patrol on a high speed chase on New Year’s Eve turned himself into authorities Monday. Robert Ochoa, 40, 719 S. Dewey, fled the patrol after allegedly striking his wife outside The Bar in Hershey on Dec. 31. Trooper Will Cleveland reported that he was westbound on Highway 30 when he encountered Ochoa’s 2006 Mazda sedan coming eastbound. Cleveland said the Mazda passed left of center and nearly struck his cruiser. Cleveland initiated a high-speed chase, but it was called off due to heavy holiday traffic once the vehicles reached North Platte, he said. After turning himself in Monday Ochoa faces a raft of charges. Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Dean Sparks reported that they are charging Ochoa with third-degree domestic assault for the incident in Hershey. For the chase, Cleveland said Ochoa is charged with felony flight to avoid arrest, willful reckless driving, trespassing (for driving through the railroad yard), failure to stop at a stop sign, failure to use a turn signal, driving on the shoulder, driving left of center, obstruction of justice, and leaving the scene of an accident.
