The North Platte Police Department collected hair and other genetic samples from an 18-year-old accused of sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl. Anthony May was arrested and charged with first-degree sexual assault Nov. 7 after the alleged victim contacted police and told them that May assaulted her the night before at a drinking party May hosted. The girl said she became intoxicated and retired to a bedroom to sleep. She told police she awoke to find herself on the floor with May on top of her, having intercourse with her. She alleged that May caused her pain with his violent sexual assault assault. The next morning she awoke and found that she was dressed, according to her statements to police. However, she discovered that her underwear was on incorrectly, and the pain she was experiencing caused her to go to the hospital. The examination performed on the girl found bruising and other evidence consistent with a sexual assault, according to documents filed in Lincoln County District Court. The police department approached May’s attorney, Blaine Gillette, in early December and asked if May would voluntarily submit blood samples, head and pubic hair, fingernail scrapings, and saliva samples. According to court documents, Gillette said May would not voluntarily submit the samples but would comply with a court order. Judge Donald Rowlands signed an order for the samples Dec. 18 and they were collected the same day. First-degree sexual assault is a class-two felony and as such carries a maximum penalty of 50 years in prison.
