The National Weather Service in North Platte issued a straightforward piece of advice: “Do not travel.”

Snow is expected to total as much as nine inches in North Platte. As the day ends, straight winds will blow up to 20 miles per hour with overnight gusts above 40 mph.

The city of North Platte declared a snow emergency Tuesday morning, which means that cars must not park on main routes through town.

Vehicles parked along emergency snow routes could be towed or ticketed. Under a snow emergency, the city scrapes approximately 158 miles of vehicle lanes.

The emergency, no-parking routes are listed below.

The temperature will dip to 15-below zero overnight and wind chill factors will reach well below minus-20, the weather service said.

The snow is expected to end during the night but the air will remain extremely cold for a couple more days. The high Wednesday will be 6-above and the low Wednesday night is forecast at minus-17.

Temperatures will gradually increase Thursday and Friday, but the warm up will be gradual. The high Friday will reach the upper teens, and might reach the mid-20s Saturday, according to the weather service.
