Two North Platte men accused of sexually assaulting the same girl were in Lincoln County District Court Monday. Jacob Hays pleaded no contest to attempted sexual assault of a minor, a lesser crime than the first-degree sexual assault of a minor charge he was initially arrested for Aug. 27. Hays will be sentenced Feb. 8. The other man, Rex Yates, had his case continued as a motion to suppress evidence was considered. He is due back in court Jan. 26. A third man charged with sexually assaulting the same 15-year-old girl, Ryan Winters, filed a similar motion to suppress Nov. 25, claiming that evidence obtained was done so in violation with his civil rights. The fourth and final person charged in the case, Samantha Grant, is Yates’ wife. She was initially charged with felony child abuse, but that charged was dropped when Grant was also arrested for first-degree sexual assault of a child.
