Mid-Plains Community College recently received $13,400 from the Nebraska Public Power District's 18th Nebraska Open ProAm Golf tournament this summer in Columbus. The money will go to scholarships for students who pursue careers in the engineering and electrical fields. The money was give in two checks -- one for McCook Community College and the other for North Platte Community College. To date, NPPD has contributed $876,041 to the state’s community colleges in NPPD’s service area. More than 1,000 students have benefited from the scholarships, according to an NPPD spokesman. Overall, Mid-Plains Community College’s share of the tournament has totaled $174,310. In his presentation, NPPD representative Larry Lindstrom said Nebraska’s economy is stronger because of "the education provided by the community college system and NPPD is stronger for having hired many of these graduates.”
