A man who arrived in North Platte from Texas via bus in July with two packages of cocaine taped to his leg was sentenced to prison Nov. 23 in Lincoln County District Court. Jesus Rodriguez, 27, was ordered to spend the next two to six years as a guest of the Nebraska Department of Corrections by Judge Donald Rowlands. Rodriguez pleaded guilty to attempted possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, a class three felony. Court officials reported that Rodriguez is currently being held by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and could face deportation upon completing his sentence. Rodriguez was one of four people connected to the controlled delivery by postal officials and the North Platte Police Department of a package containing 16 pounds of marijuana in July. One of the other suspects, Nicky Apodaca, pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 90 days in Lincoln County jail. Another, Anthony Apodaca, pleaded no contest to marijuana and cocaine charges Nov. 2 and faces sentencing Dec. 14. The final person implicated by the package, Malia Caudillo, appeared in Lincoln County District Court Monday after successfully completing treatment. Her next court appearance is slated for January.
