Philip Charlton, Chair of the North Platte Area Chamber of Commerce and Development Corporation’s Agri-Business Committee recently announced two $750 scholarships were awarded at the Committee’s 46th Annual Farmer/Rancher Appreciation Banquet that on Nov. 9 at the Quality Inn–Sandhills Convention Center in North Platte. More than 450 farmers, ranchers and businesspeople were in attendance at the banquet, presented each year by the Chamber and Development Corp. and sponsor businesses to honor agricultural producers. The eligibility requirements for the scholarships were that applicants: 1) A senior going on to a “higher education” program relating to agriculture (veterinarian medicine included). 2) Must either live in or go to school in Lincoln, Logan, or McPherson County. This year’s winners: • Carson Arnett of Hershey, the son of Robert and Kathy Arnett. • Tell Deatrich of Maywood, the son of Todd and Jan Deatrich. The Committee feels strongly that agriculture is a vital part of our “quality of life” and hopes that these scholarships will encourage our young people to consider making their living not only in agriculture, but here in Nebraska as well. These scholarships are granted each year. If you know of any students that will be seniors for the 2010-2011 school year, and will be going on to college to pursue a career related to agriculture, please tell them about these scholarships.
