A Wyoming man was arrested for firing weapons inside city limits Tuesday evening. A North Platte Police Department spokesperson reported that Michael Meyers, 39, had been firing guns after cleaning them around 7:30 p.m. A call came in to the police reporting gunshots in the 600 block of East Ninth Street. When an officer arrived on the scene, he could hear the shots being fired. The police contacted Meyers, who denied firing any weapons. However, the empty bullet and shell casings on the ground nearby gave him away. Meyers was arrested for disturbing the peace and discharging a weapon inside city limits. Once Meyers was in custody, the police learned that he is a convicted felon, so they charged him with being a felon in possession of a firearm, a class-one D felony. If convicted, Meyers could face a maximum of fifty years in prison. A class-one D felony carries a mandatory minimum of three years imprisonment. Meyers is a North Platte native, the spokesperson said, but he listed Casper, Wyoming as his current residence.
