All i can say is this is a bad deal. I hung out with DJ in high school and I even went to school with him in elementary. I just hope he is remembered as I knew him. He was a great friend and he will be missed by all of us. |

As a relative of DJ I would like to thank everyone who had all of his family and friends in their prayers. I would like to comment on the article and say yes at first it was very hurtful to read what it had said about the alcohol because the authorities chose to tell the newpapers and tv stations they suspected it before they told his parents which to me was a shame. And yes the spelling of his name hurt too. In my opinion I would have made sure I had the spelling right. Ask 2 or 3 times if i had too. But all people made mistakes and the fact it was corrected was very appreciated Thank you very much Ben. I know you are just doing your job. I would also like to tell SCOOTER that his family would very much like to know what went on the last night of Daveys life. And NO its not to pass judgement. We would never do that! Its just for peace of mind. Drinking or not we would like to know how he enjoyed the last night of his life. We can''t keep from racking our brains about it. We don''t know much except that he was looking forward to go to the fights and couldn''t wait to se his other the next day. If your willing to help fill in the gaps it would be greatly appreciated. We will always miss DJ. He was a great person as I''m sure you knew that. I am sorry for your loss of a good friend as I have lost a great cousin. Not many like Dj are around these days. Once again thank you everybody. |

SCOOTER, How disrespectful can you be? To state that he had no more than the rest of you proves you were present when this boy was heading to his grave and if you are of legal drinking age and did not stop him you are responsible as well as anyone else who was present! You are to be ashamed of yourself for coming on here and trying to make yourself look like a man because you drank the same amount but did not have a fatality accident. You did not take your consequences as you stated, but do not worry... ITS COMING! |

How sad. My thoughts and prayers go out to this young mans friends and family. Sensible...what you said to the family was beautiful! And i say that whole heartedly, no sarcasm intended incase anyone would take what i said the wrong way. |

What a loss, a more sincere, like''able young man does not exist. As a resident of Maxwell, I drive past the accident location about (20) times a week. It is possible that a motorist in the early morning hours would not notice the accident at that spot. That location has several tall piles of ballast, iron and other junk within several feet of the roadside. There has also been a lot of U.P. equipment and vehicles parked there intermittently over the past few weeks. These factors de-sensitize the eyes to something out of place at this location. |

He didnt have ne more than the rest of us. In fact, he really didnt have ne. He FELL asleep at the wheel. He was not planned on going home in the first place, he was supposed to go to a friends close by. His fone died, so no one knew where he was. Theres a lot more to the story than ne of you will ever know. It COULD have been avoided and trust me, i have taken my consiquences for the rest of my life. Its something i have to live with and am, so dont tell me i was part of the reason bcuz i know that. |

scooter, just a question, if you were with him that night maybe you know who was responsible for giving him the alcohol that took his life! This is a tragic accident, but it could have been prevented had someone obeyed the law and not allowed him to drink by not purchasing alcohol for him! When will people learn? May GOD keep watch over D.J. REST IN PEACE |

It is most likely that the young man was not seen by passer-bys as he was thrown from the truck. Yes, it is sad to think that someone may have noticed him or his vehicle and kept on driving. However, what angers and saddens me more is that many of those who were with him at the fights knew he had had way too much to drink yet no one took his keys or kept him from driving. This is a sad and unnecessary loss of a young life. I hope this is a lesson for those who think they can drink and drive and those who can intervene when a friend has been drinking. This was a completely avoidable death. My thoughts go out to the family...your loss is great and your pain unimaginable. Remember your child for all of his beauties and do not dwell on his mistakes. |

Since North Plattes main exit is 177 That would mean mile marker 188 would be 10 miles east of North Platte which is before the overpass at Maxwell. So the railroad tracks are on the north side of Hwy 30 where this accident happened. |

npscout, the railroad is on the north side of the highway before the overpass going into Maxwell. Not sure where the mile marker 188 is at, but it switches at the overpass. |

Question? How can a vehicle hit a "Union Pacific" pole (just a pole) on the north-side of the highway when the railroad is on the south-side of the highway? |

I agree with hooper, if I saw an accident Im not sure what I would do, would I be able to run up to the person and handle what I would see or would I be to scared to move? One thing I know I WOULD do is at least call 911 and stay there until they showed up!! This is a tragic accident that may or may not have been avoided, we will never know for all we know he swerved to miss a deer. Please let this accident be a wake up call to people of all ages out there. If alcohol was a factor then yes this could have been avoided I know alot of us our guilty of drinking and driving because we all think "that will never happen to me" but if drinking was not a factor then please stop and think about how you feel before you get behind the wheel of a vehicle, whether you are tired or sick or just in a really bad mood, especially at that time of night. Well enough said, my prayers and thoughts go out to the whole family all of his friends and to the community that lost this young man way to soon. Stay strong. |

i do wish that the last few lines could be left out. i know that it is part of the story, but it is truly hurtful at this time. no one should be shooting the messenger, it is what it is, but i know as a grieving family, it has to be rubbing salt in wounds. prayers go out to the family, friends and community affected by this young mans death. i am so very sorry for everyone''s loss. |

It''s always devistating to see such a young life taken too soon. I did not know this young man personally, but my brother was friends with him and was shocked and deeply saddened when he heard the news as well..My heart goes out to his family, I pray for their strength. My sincere condolences to anyone who was remotely involved or effected by this tragedy. |

Yes this is so so sad. I personally know DJ''s family and of it has been the upmost pleasure to have known DJ. I see his warm smile as he loved to warm up the Modified car he and his Dad raced at race tracks. I was at his side in the pits. DJ loved to work with his dad on their car and most of all the the thrill of racing himself...for a youg man, he sure knew how to race a car...My heart is so hurting for Dave & Stacy and Kids. This is so traggic and will my prayer go out to his friends and relatives... You Will Be Missed DJ. |

I''m sorry for your loss however there is no reason to blame the Bulletin or the authorities for stating what is written in the report. I heard of the accident on the radio and on NTV news. Both were stating alcohol was highly suspected. Teens, if you are tired pull over and rest. If you''ve been drinking, call someone or let someone else drive. Don''t play super hero. Please don''t waste any more lives. Family you are in our prayers. |

Hamjustice, I don''t think they mean people intentionally passed the accident and didn''t report it, or I hope not anyway! I understood it as the accident may have happened earlier in the morning and no one realized it until the sun came up! I imagine numerous people traveled Highway 30 during that evening and probably did not see his vehicle. My prayers go out to his family and friends. |

Here''s what angers me the most: "Investigators are unsure of the exact time of the accident, but believe that several motorists passed the accident before someone called 911." Here''s what saddens me the most: a young, vibrant life was lost. May those who passed by without stopping find it REALLY HARD TO SLEEP for awhile, wondering if they could have saved him.

Our deepest sympathy goes out to DJ''s family and friends. What a terrible thing to have happened. Please next time wait on the comments of alcohol until AFTER the results are in, if nothing more than for the familys involved. |

NPgrad... I am sorry for the loss of your friend. To defend Ben a bit... typos happen often, so I am sure he did not mean to misspell his name, and didn''t mean to offend or dishonor this young mans life. Secondly, I am sure it is hard to read that alcohol may be a factor in the accident, but, it does seem to me that Ben only quoted LCSO. I hope that it wasn''t a factor, for his family''s sake, as it would be hard to accept that. Either way, alcohol or not, a young man''s life was taken too eary, and I, again, am sorry for your loss. God bless his family and friends. |

First of all, his name is David L. Pedersen Jr. NOT Peterson. It irritates me that he cannot even be honored enough to have his name spelled right when his death is reported. Secondly, there is no proof that alcohol was a factor in this tragic event. It would seem that sensationalizing the story is more important than reporting the facts: This young man leaves behind a devistated family and large group of friends to mourn him. He died in an accident still under investigation. His name was David L. Pedersen, Jr. and I have been blessed to know him his entire life. |
