A single car accident early Sunday morning claimed the life of a Brady teenager. The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office reported that David L. Pederson, Jr., crashed his 1976 Ford pickup near mile marker 188 on Highway 30. LCSO stated in a press release that Pederson was eastbound on the highway, and they suspect he fell asleep behind the wheel. The pickup crossed the oncoming lane of traffic before leaving the north side of the road. Pederson’s vehicle struck a Union Pacific pole before rolling at least two times. Pederson was not restrained and was ejected, leading to his death according to the LCSO statement. Investigators are unsure of the exact time of the accident, but believe that several motorists passed the accident before someone called 911. Pederson was the sole occupant of the pickup, which was totaled. LCSO Chief Deputy Dean Sparks said Monday that blood results had not been received, and probably would not be for two to three weeks. It is not clear at this time if alcohol played a role in the accident.
Editor's note: this story was ammended Monday, Oct. 26 at 3:15 p.m. to reflect a new statement from Dean Sparks, and to correct the spelling of Pederson's last name.
