Preparations are underway for the deployment to Iraq in August of nearly 60 soldiers with the 1013th Quartermasters. The U.S. Army Reserve’s 1013th is headquartered in North Platte. It is currently 98 soldiers strong. Fifty-seven of those soldiers will attach to the 263rd Quartermasters of El Paso, Texas to fill out that unit, according to Staff Sgt. Aaron Haag., administrator of the 1013th. The 263rd will head to Iraq later this year to support military operations there. The 1013th has twice deployed to Iraq since the start of the war. They were in Iraq for much of 2003 and again in 2005. A barbeque for the families of the 1013th will be held June 13 at the North Platte High School, as part of a seven-step “yellow ribbon” program to help families cope with the separation. Businesses have been asked to donate food, utensils or cash for the barbeque. To contribute, call 402-478-4248 or email www.operationbbqmw.org.
