The Nebraska State Patrol Air Wing, in conjunction with the Furnas County Sheriff’s Office, captured a Stamford man wanted in connection with a home burglary in rural Furnas County. On Sunday, May 3, the Furnas County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a residential burglary that occurred around 11:00 a.m. approximately 13 miles southeast of Beaver City. The owner of the property told deputies he had come in contact with a young male subject on his property. The male subject was driving a gold colored Oldsmobile and claimed to be lost and in need of directions. The property owner was unaware at the time that the male had broken into his residence. Deputies made contact at a nearby residence with Andrew Greise, 20, who was believed to be a suspect in the burglary. While talking with Geise, deputies gathered information indicating his potential involvement in the recent home burglary. Deputies were in the process of placing Geise under arrest, when he fled on foot. A nearly 3-½ hour search by the deputies, the Nebraska State Patrol and a Phelps County K-9 deputy failed to locate the suspect. The search which was eventually called off Sunday, due to weather, was resumed on Monday, May 4. Monday’s search included the Furnas County Sheriff’s Office, troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol and air support from the NSP Air Wing. After searching approximately 35 minutes, utilizing the aircraft’s Forward Looking Infra Red, a device that detects body heat, the suspect was located hiding at the base of a tree, near a pond, in a field about a quarter of a mile south of the residence where he was originally contacted. He was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Furnas County Jail. Geise is currently being held in the Furnas County Jail on two counts of burglary. Both charges are both Class-III felonies. He was also charged with one count of resisting arrest a Class-I, misdemeanor.
