KEARNEY – Stress can be good or bad, etc., and people handle it differently. Angela Regenos handled it by stealing somewhere between $577,277 and $868,130 from the Kearney Public Schools Foundation. She was the executive director for 13 years. Her attorney said she was under a lot of stress, so she stole. Regenos was found guilty Monday in Buffalo County District Court of felony theft. She pleaded “no contest,” which is the same as a guilty plea so far as the law is concerned. She is scheduled for sentencing March 3. Her lawyer, Clarence Mock, told an impromptu news conference that Regenos had been under a great deal of stress, which led to the theft. She could get from 1-to-20 years in prison. For now, she’s free on bail. The Kearney Hub reported that Regenos and her husband apparently spent the stolen money over the years on houses, cars, a motorcycle and some jewelery.
