Mail carrier Dwight (Ike) Miller was injured in a serious car accident recently and sustained multiple injuries. Miller, a long-time mail carrier in the Wellfleet and Maywood area, was injured on U.S. Highway 83 south of North Platte, near Lake Maloney, when his Chevy Blazer hit a grain truck. He is currently at Creighton University hospital in Omaha. A fund has been established to help with medical and living expenses. Miller, a long-time mail carrier in the Wellfleet and Maywood area, collided with a grain truck Nov. 13 that pulled out of a cornfield. Miller was pinned under the back of the truck until rescue crew arrived from North Platte. He was taken by ambulance to Great Plains Regional Medical Center and life-flighted to Omaha with a fractured left leg, right elbow, ribs, and the right orbital socket around the eye, plus numerous bumps and bruises, according to a Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office report. It was the second time Miller was injured in an accident in less than a year. Both accidents occurred along U.S. 83. The first accident was in January. Miller suffered a neck injury. He waited 45 minutes for an ambulance to arrive, after dispatchers mistakenly sent rescue units in the wrong direction.
