Valentine authorities said they arrested the "Butt Bandit," the man who was leaving butt prints all over town. Known as the “Butt Bandit,” the man was wanted for pressing his naked buttocks, groin or both on store windows for the past two years. Some local residents found humor in the act but others were irritated because they had to wash lotion and petroleum jelly off the windows the man selected. Valentine Police Chief Ben McBride called it "the weirdest case I've ever seen." There's a sense of relief in the Valentine business community after last week’s arrest. The rash of bizarre behavior began in May 2007. Valentine police already had fielded about 20 different reports by this time a year ago. Rewards offered through Crime Stoppers failed to provide any leads. No physical structure has been damaged, although producing the printings probably involved indecent exposure, officials believe. The butt prints crimes occurred across the entire community, in the downtown along Main Street and along U.S. Highway 20. Many of the targeted businesses sit along visible, well-traveled areas. The man, 35, was arrested Nov. 19 but formal charges were not yet filed.
