Representatives from Nebraska Farmers Union will be on hand to discuss Nebraska's Community-Based Energy Development and explain the benefits of locally owned energy development.

C-BED energy projects are a way for communities to finance and build renewable energy projects. They can be organized by ranchers, farmers and landowners, mainstreet businesses and bankers, wind developers and component fabricators, educators, renewable energy advocates or other members of local communities.

The basis for projects were authorized by the Legislature and Gov. Dave Heineman in 2007.

In September, 2004, the U.S. General Accounting Office published a report, titled "Wind Power’s Contribution to Electric Power Generation and Impact on Farms and Rural Communities."

The report shows employment and income impacts are considerably greater for projects that are locally owned, than for projects that are owned by out-of-area firms.
