With the results all in, Nebraskans stood out in steer wrestling at the Buffalo Bill Rodeo, finishing 2-3-4. Dan Barner of Hershey took second with an aggregate time of 9.3, one-tenth of a second behind champion Chad Van Campen of Grenada, Colo. Barry Kreikemeier of West Point was third (9.6) and Shawn Boyle of Hershey took fourth (9.7). Nebraskans competed well overall in the rodeo against some of the worlds best. Ray Brown of North Platte was second in tie-down roping with an aggregate time of 18.4, earning him $1,124. Doug Pharr of Victoria, Tex. won the event with an 18.0 to take home $1,359. But Wyoming cowboys captured the big bucks of rough and tough bull riding. Josh Johnson survived the bull Aches and Pains for the required eight seconds on the final night of the rodeo, earning him first place and a $3,600 check. The Douglas, Wyo. cowboy stayed right in there through a series of wicked spins. He scored a 92, the best of the six cowboys who managed to ride bulls during the four nights of the rodeo. Cameron Castleberry of Gillette, Wyo. was second in bull riding with an 87. Nationally known Bobby Griswold of Geary, Okla. pleased the crowd with the best saddle bronc ride of the final night. The three-time National Final Rodeo qualifier rode all the way across the arena to notch a 79 score, then took a lap around the arena to the cheers of a near full house. Griswolds ride tied him for third with Nebraska cowboy Travis Sturdy of Palmyra. Cooper McBride of Big Springs tied for seventh in the event. Steven Dent of Mullen finished in the money in bareback riding -- in a three-way tie for 6-8. Grandma cowgirl June Holeman of Arcadia was fourth in barrel racing with a time of 17.44 that she delivered on opening night. Holeman is in her fourth decade of competition. Rhonda Richardson of Fullerton was right behind Holeman with a time of 17.75, and Rachel Anderson of North Platte finished ninth in 17.86. Ben Lashley won a raffle for a $1,200 commemorative rodeo belt buckle. After the rodeo, motocross riders D. J. Umphries and Brent Denton amazed the crowd for the fourth straight night with bike jumps high above the arena. The daredevil riders came out of their bike seats more than once but returned in time to land the bike. Their theatrics were capped when bike and rider turned a complete summersault in the air.
